As part of the newly launched Cyber Improvement Programme, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Information Services Directorate as a Network Security Engineer at the University of Strathclyde.This role offers the chance to contribute directly to a major transformation in the University’s cyber resilience and to play a central part in strengthening the security of our enterprise network.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated engineer with strong technical expertise in network security and modern access control technologies. The postholder will work within the Network team, collaborating closely with colleagues in the Cybersecurity team and wider IS Infrastructure teams. You will lead the design and deployment of advanced controls including Network Access Control, Zero Trust Network Access, Web Application Firewalls and enhanced IDS or IPS platforms.
These technologies are critical to improving segmentation, minimising surface exposure and ensuring that the University’s systems remain robust against evolving threats.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience across core networking technologies, hands on knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, ACLs and secure network architectures, and a strong understanding of enterprise security design principles. You will bring a methodical approach, strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience with automation and orchestration using tools such as Python, Ansible or APIs would be beneficial but not essential.
