Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Principal Developer (SQL)

Hybrid - Edinburgh or Glasgow (2 days office / 3 from home)

A long‑established and growing technology organisation is looking for a Principal Developer to take a senior technical role within their Professional Services team. You'll lead the delivery of data‑driven solutions for major financial clients while providing guidance and support to a team of experienced developers.

This role combines hands‑on technical leadership with coaching, solution oversight, and quality assurance, ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with data and helping others succeed.

The Role

As a Principal Developer, you'll act as the technical lead across a range of client implementations. Your work will involve shaping solution design, ensuring strong delivery standards, and getting involved in the more complex elements of SQL development and data analysis.

You'll play a key part in setting technical direction, supporting developers in their growth, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and to a high standard. You will also provide guidance during testing phases, help resolve issues, and act as an escalation point for technical challenges.

What You'll Bring

The team is open on tech stack - what matters most is strong SQL expertise and experience working with financial data.

You should have experience in:
  • Advanced SQL development, querying, transformation and performance optimisation (any platform).
  • Working in financial services, Fin Tech, insurance, banking or similar data‑heavy environments.
  • Taking a lead role in technical delivery or implementation projects.
  • Supporting or managing small development teams.
  • Understanding the full software development and implementation lifecycle.
  • Managing scope, change control, and ensuring quality throughout delivery.
  • Experience with BI/reporting tools (such as Power BI, SSRS or equivalent) or low‑code configuration tools would be useful, but not essential.
Why Join?

You'll become part of a highly skilled, supportive team with excellent tenure and strong technical capability. The organisation offers a genuinely people‑focused culture with clear progression and regular investment in development.
