Senior Data Engineer

Our client is scaling a cloud-native data platform and is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to own its technical direction. This is a hands‑on, design‑led role focused on building reliable, high‑performance data systems that power analytics and downstream use cases at scale.

You’ll take ownership of the core data infrastructure, shaping how data is ingested, transformed, modelled, and served across the organisation. Working closely with software engineers and product teams, you’ll champion strong engineering standards, automation, and long‑term platform sustainability.

• Architecting, building, and operating cloud‑based data platforms with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance
• Designing and delivering batch and orchestrated data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Databricks
• Developing transformation logic in Python and SQL, using reusable, testable patterns
• Modelling analytical datasets using dimensional and warehouse design principles
• Owning database structures, schemas, and performance tuning across Azure SQL and Synapse
• Monitoring pipeline health and platform performance, diagnosing failures and data quality issues
• Implementing data validation, error handling, and observability across the platform
• Applying infrastructure, security, and deployment best practices, including CI/CD for data workloads

• Proven experience in data engineering roles at senior or lead level
• Strong hands‑on experience with Azure data services (Data Factory, Synapse, Azure SQL)
• Production experience using Databricks and Python for data processing
• Advanced SQL skills with experience designing and optimising analytical data models
• Practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for data platforms
• Experience working in collaborative engineering teams using version control and code review

This is a UK‑based role with a high degree of remote flexibility.

Salary: to £90,000, depending on experience.
