The DP&C function is responsible for providing technology & culture services across all Scottish Power businesses in the UK. Technical leadership is fundamental to the future of IT within Scottish Power as our business processes rely increasingly more on the data & AI foundations. The Data Scientist role will be based in Glasgow but may include some travel within the Iberdrola Group.
You will report to the Data & AI Governance Lead and work with a team of various experience in a wide range of existing and evolving complex information data forums. You will be instrumental in influencing key data decisions, and group alignment, through industry trend analysis, engagements in group wide forums and business engagements.
You will be a highly motivated multi-skilled Data Scientist with significant experience across multiple data analytics and reporting tool sets gained through direct experience in technology domains such as cloud, CICD, Dev Ops, application development, Integration, Data & Analytics, digital services, application installation & configuration. Experience with SaaS, PaaS, IaaS would also be beneficial.
This is a highly scientific role requiring strong people and analytics skills to work closely with different domains locally and globally to support Scottish Power Businesses, IT Business Managers, Infrastructure Managers teams and the wider Digital Transformation & Architecture team. An ability to speak in technical & non-technical terms, tailoring the message to the audience is essential. Clearly understands the tactical goals for own area and monitors, organises and delegates work on a day-to-day basis to drive successful delivery.
You will be a self-starter and a continuous learner in technology, keeping abreast of industry trends with your team, working with external parties to enhance and develop deep IT knowledge on technology trends. This position requires the ability to identify opportunities to use technology to deliver services that are more effective. To do this, the role holder must be able to influence and communicate successfully with the relevant parties inside and outside of the company while remaining accountable for the outcomes.
Whatyou'll be doing
- With responsibility of your team, design and review new solutions with specific focus on modern-day platform data requirements.
- Be the data science lead and direct the team involved in researching, reviewing, and making recommendations on any new solutions from a perspective of design, technical fit and alignment with global standards.
- Support the yearly IT budget and planning process in Scottish Power for technology alignment to business requirements.
- Analyse data solutions and technologies and make recommendations based on knowledge of the organisation’s current and future needs.
- Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Business acumen to align AI solutions with strategic goals.
- Lead comprehensive product/application evaluation and selection activities.
- Prepare presentations, documents, diagrams, models, and other artefacts to communicate analysis, recommendations, or designs.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to understand the needs for the various software applications.
- Understand technology trends and the practical application of existing, new and emerging data technologies to identify and develop new and innovative capabilities, working with vendors as needed to bring them to life.
- Define high-level migration plans to address the gaps between the current and future state, typically in sync with the IT budgeting or other capital planning processes.
As a Data Scientist, you will have a broad experience across various current modern day IT principles.
- Significant experience of various data system architectures, application technologies, data architectures and infrastructures to support key IT initiatives.
- In depth experience of technical layers:
Traditional 3 Tier Architecture, Database Architecture, Cloud Computing, Data & Analytics, Integration & middleware, Desktop technology, IT Security, Digital platforms. - Demonstrate knowledge of data layer and IT delivery including:

Scikit-learn, Tensor Flow, Py Torch - AI Techniques:
Deep Learning, NLP, Computer Vision - Data Engineering:
Pandas, Spark, Hadoop - Cloud Platforms: AWS (S3, Lambda, Sage Maker), Azure ML
- Data Visualisation:
Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib - Infrastructure & Application Virtualisation platforms
- Operating Systems:
Windows OS & Linux OS - Application Servers including JBOSS, Tomcat, .NET
- IT platforms including Containers and Container Platforms (Open Shift / EKS / AKS)
- Cloud IaaS and PaaS experience on MS Azure & AWS
- Data Platforms (On-Premise & Cloud Hosted) including Oracle / SQL Server / Postgres databases
