Overview

Lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high‑quality software solutions. Drive technical excellence, foster a culture of innovation, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high‑performance culture to achieve project goals.
  • Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management, and task prioritization to ensure successful delivery within scope, time, and budget.
  • Mentor and support team members’ professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluate and enhance engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency and streamline workflows.
  • Collaborate with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Enforce technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure high‑quality delivery.
  • Manage a business function, providing significant input to function‑wide strategic initiatives and influencing policy and procedures.
  • Coordinate resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub‑function.
  • Foster compliance, ensure regulations are observed, and maintain adherence to relevant processes.
  • Maintain a broad understanding of industry theories and practices within the discipline, and stay informed about external market developments.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve complex or sensitive problems.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as a principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other business divisions.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the function and business division when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate clear leadership behaviours (Listen, Energise, Align, Develop) and adhere to the Barclays Values of Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Stewardship.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 5+ years experience in a technology leadership role designing and developing online, internet‑facing channels.
  • Proven ability to define and execute internet channel strategies aligned to the corporate banking segment.
  • Track record of managing highly utilized critical client‑facing applications that demand ‘always‑on’ designs.
  • Experience owning end‑to‑end digital client journeys across online applications, ensuring consistency, usability, and premium user experience.
  • Ability to lead cross‑functional teams including product managers, UX/UI designers, and senior online platform and application developers.
  • Strong understanding of emerging digital trends and technologies.
  • Operational lead experience for day‑to‑day effectiveness of online platforms, including corporate websites, online portals, and self‑service platforms.
  • Ability to define and prioritise product roadmaps, feature enhancements, and technical upgrades in an enterprise environment.
  • Collaboration with Technology, Security, Service Management, and Product Teams.
  • Experience in managing external partners, vendors, and agencies to support technology solution development.
