Overall Purpose of The Job
This Data Engineer Lead role will lead the design, development, optimisation, and governance of the V.Group One Data Platform within a highly collaborative agile environment. The role is responsible for providing technical leadership across the data engineering function, ensuring scalable and high-quality data solutions that support strategic business objectives, innovation, and enterprise-wide analytics capabilities.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of the enterprise data stack within the Dev Ops framework.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Data Engineers and wider data teams.
- Define and enforce best practices for data engineering, architecture, governance, and quality assurance.
- Lead the development of scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and enterprise data integration solutions.
- Oversee integration with upstream and downstream systems and APIs for data ingestion and egestion.
- Drive optimisation of data warehouses, data lakes, and performance tuning activities.
- Ensure performance, reliability, quality, and consistency across all data assets and processes.
- Collaborate closely with Data Architects, DBA teams, Product Owners, Analysts, and business stakeholders.
- Lead technical discussions, solution design sessions, and architecture reviews.
- Champion data quality initiatives and establish enterprise-wide data quality frameworks and standards.
- Define and implement data observability, monitoring, validation, and automated quality controls.
- Lead the creation and maintenance of data quality dashboards and reporting metrics.
- Review business use cases and define scalable future-state data service capabilities.
- Drive adoption of modern data engineering principles, standards, and governance frameworks.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve data utilisation, lineage, discovery, and accessibility.
- Support strategic delivery initiatives aligned with the V.Group innovation and transformation agenda.
- Manage priorities, technical delivery, and coordination across multiple work streams.
- Influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders without direct authority.
- Contribute to longer-term data strategy, roadmap planning, and capability development.
- Attend other V.Group management offices as required.
- Undertake any other duties as required.
- Microsoft Azure data stack and SQL Server
- ETL/ELT technologies including SSIS and Azure Data Factory
- Cloud-native data engineering and architecture
- Data warehouse and data lake design
- Performance tuning and optimisation
- Data governance, lineage, and quality frameworks
- CI/CD and Dev Ops practices within data platforms
- Data programming languages including SQL, Spark, Python, and C#
- Distributed data processing and scalable architectures
- Leading technical teams and mentoring engineers
- Stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration
- Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities
- Deep understanding of enterprise data best practices
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders and business leaders
- Ability to manage competing priorities and projects
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Experience implementing enterprise data quality controls and monitoring
- Knowledge of cross-business data domains and enterprise reporting structures
- Self-motivated approach to planning and executing strategic initiatives
- Willingness to travel in support of business requirements
- Experience leading enterprise cloud migration or modernisation programmes
- Azure certifications or relevant cloud/data certifications
- Experience with data governance tools and master data management
- Exposure to AI/ML data platform enablement
- Experience working within global or maritime/logistics organisations
