Across government, the quality of data is fundamental to effective decision-making, operational performance and public trust. As organisations increase their use of data, analytics and AI, ensuring that data is accurate, reliable and well-governed becomes critical. Poor data quality can undermine insight and impact outcomes, while high-quality data enables confident decisions and better services. At Ofgem, strengthening data quality is central to delivering on our regulatory responsibilities and supporting the transition to a more secure, fair and sustainable energy system.
Ofgem plays a vital role in protecting energy consumers and enabling the UK’s journey to Net Zero. As the organisation continues to embed data-driven decision-making, there is a growing need to ensure that the data underpinning analysis, reporting and modelling is trusted and fit for purpose. Within the Digital, Data and Security Services (DDSS) directorate, we are developing stronger data governance practices and improving data quality across systems, products and processes.
As Senior Data Quality Analyst, you will play a key role in leading data quality analysis and driving improvements across the organisation. You will work within the Data Governance team to assess, monitor and enhance data quality, ensuring that data is managed in line with organisational standards and best practice.
This is a role that combines analytical expertise with stakeholder engagement and leadership. You will evaluate data products and pipelines, identify areas for improvement and communicate insights in a way that builds understanding and trust. You will also contribute to shaping how data quality is managed, embedding better practices and supporting colleagues across the data community.
You will be responsible for:
- Reviewing and assessing statistical analyses, data products and pipelines against defined data quality standards, policies and processes
- Leading data quality improvement initiatives, identifying root causes of issues and implementing sustainable solutions
- Developing and promoting best practice in data management and quality across the organisation
- Creating dashboards, reports and visualisations to communicate data quality insights clearly and effectively to a range of stakeholders
- Engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to explain findings, influence improvements and build confidence in data
- Supporting and guiding teams in adopting improved data quality practices and standards
- Providing technical leadership in data quality analysis, coaching junior colleagues and contributing to capability development
- Driving continuous improvement in tools, processes and approaches to data quality
We are looking for a skilled and analytical data professional with experience of improving data quality in complex environments. You will bring strong experience of reviewing analytical outputs and data pipelines, alongside a clear understanding of how to implement effective data quality frameworks and practices.
You will also be confident using data visualisation tools such as Power BI to present complex information in a clear and accessible way, and comfortable working with a range of analytical tools and technologies. Your approach will combine technical expertise with a strong focus on business impact, ensuring that improvements in data quality deliver real value.
You will also be an effective communicator, able to engage stakeholders at all levels, translate technical insights into clear messages and build trust in data across the organisation. Your leadership will support both delivery and capability building within the data community.
Experience with in government or a regulated environment would be beneficial, particularly in relation to data governance and standards, but is not essential. What matters most is your ability to improve data quality, influence good practice and support better decision-making through…
