As an Open Shift Operator, you’ll play a key role in the operation, support, and continual improvement of the Bank’s enterprise Open Shift platform, providing a secure, resilient, and scalable hosting environment for critical business services. Working within a highly regulated environment, you’ll be responsible for maintaining platform stability, managing incidents and operational issues, implementing changes, and ensuring services remain available, secure, and compliant.

The role is hands-on and delivery-focused, requiring you to troubleshoot complex technical issues, perform platform upgrades and patching activities, manage vulnerabilities, support infrastructure lifecycle activities, and contribute to the introduction of new platform capabilities. You’ll work closely with engineering, security, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure solutions are operationally ready, supportable, and aligned to enterprise standards.

What you’ll be doing
  • Operate Open Shift clusters across environments in accordance with defined platform standards, controls, and support models
  • Execute upgrades, patching, and maintenance activities with appropriate validation, rollback, and recovery controls
  • Investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes to prevent recurrence
  • Build and improve automation, scripting, and operational tooling to reduce manual effort and increase consistency
  • Implement and maintain observability (monitoring, logging, alerting, dashboards) to support proactive operations
  • Operate platform security controls (RBAC, service accounts, certificates, secrets) in line with defined policies
  • Maintain and improve operational documentation, including runbooks and procedures
  • This role includes participation in a structured on-call rota, providing out-of-hours support across evenings and weekends to ensure continuous 24/7 service coverage. Candidates should be comfortable responding to incidents outside standard business hours as part of a shared team rotation.
Why join us?

What we’re looking for?
  • Strong hands-on experience operating production Open Shift or Kubernetes platforms
  • Solid technical understanding across cluster architecture, networking, storage, ingress, and operators
  • Experience in incident investigation, change execution, and working within governed environments
  • Ability to automate and standardise operational tasks using scripting or tooling
  • Experience with observability tools (logging, monitoring, alerting) and operational data analysis
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on identifying root cause and improving reliability
  • Effective collaboration and communication in Agile delivery environments
  • Experience working in Agile environments, using Jira.
  • And any experience of these would be great
  • Experience in regulated environments with formal risk and control requirements
  • Exposure to SRE or reliability engineering practices
  • Experience supporting hybrid or private cloud Open Shift platforms, Kubernetes or VKS environments
  • Experience working with vendors such as Red Hat for technical issue resolution
