Key responsibilities
  • Underwrite new business profitably, accurately, and consistently, following established underwriting practices and utilising all available appetite tools.
  • Gather comprehensive information, leverage knowledge of policy wordings and industry trends to assess risks, and determine suitable premiums based on precise technical pricing.
  • Build credibility with brokers and customers through effective questioning, understanding their priorities, and designing tailored solutions that meet their needs.
  • Develop strong relationships both internally and externally by taking ownership, responding promptly to broker demands, and keeping them informed of relevant activity.
  • Maximise financial results and generate new business opportunities by building trading relationships through visits and calls with intermediaries.
  • Establish yourself as a trading expert among intermediaries, enhancing confidence in the branch's capabilities through interactions with the Underwriting Technical Centre.
  • Contribute to loss ratio management by diligently applying branch underwriting controls and procedures.
Work arrangements

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least three days a week (60%) away from home. Away from home means attending the office in Glasgow, visiting clients or attending industry events. We're also happy to consider flexible working arrangements, which you can discuss with Talent Acquisition.

Your

skills & experience
  • Proven experience in decision making on a wide range of underwriting scenarios within a Commercial P&C environment.
  • Sound understanding of the insurance market and processes across commercial lines insurance operations.
  • Strong trading capability—commercial awareness, negotiation skills, ability to build strong broker relationships.
  • Cert CII qualification with DIP CII desirable.
  • Pragmatic decision making with good analytical and numerical reasoning skills.
  • Experience of working in teams and a successful record of delivering results.
  • As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.

This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre‑employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.
