. Our Defender Insurance team provides a full, expert service in defending public (PL) and employers' liability (EL) claims, across the private sector and the public sector. Weightmans' team is renowned for litigation defence services in these and other specialist Casualty areas. We operate on a national basis with dedicated insurance, motor, disease, regulatory and public sector teams and a dedicated Casualty Fraud team within our wider practice.
We are currently recruiting for a Solicitor 3-4 YRS PQE or Associate 5 YRS+ PQE to join our Glasgow Insurance Team. You will work in the dedicated insurance team based out of Glasgow with a varied caseload of pre- and litigated EL/PL claims, motor and disease, and assist with high value and complex claims. We receive direct instructions from both insureds and insurers, as well as local authorities.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of your cases including liaising with clients, opponents, courts, witnesses and undertaking your own liability investigations.
Responsibilities- Predominantly PI including EL, PL, Disease and Motor
- Work as part of a team providing a comprehensive range of legal advice and representation to the team’s clients
- Assist the Partners with their cases, client development, client training, networking and potentially public speaking where required
- Assist with supervision of junior handlers
- Complete MI procedures as and when required
- Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
- Ensure relevant deadlines, SLAs, quality measures and KPI’s are adhered to
- Comply with relevant policies and procedures
- Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values
- You may also be required to carry out tasks that fall within the wider remit of the role

- Ideally you will have previous experience and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the above areas of work; the role is varied, so a flexible approach and ability to adapt to different tasks is valued
- Previous experience managing the defence of EL/PL casualty claims is essential
- Previous experience managing the defence of motor/fraud/disease claims is desirable
- Excellent knowledge of Court of Session and Sheriff Court procedure is preferable
- Experience of handling own caseload
- Good influencing skills
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and team working skills
- Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets
- Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative
- Flexible approach to work and a willingness to travel
