About SPT

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships. As well as running the iconic Glasgow Subway, SPT delivers an extensive range of public transport services, including bus stations and subsidised bus services, manages large transport infrastructure projects and is responsible for the delivery of a long‑term multi‑modal transport strategy for the West of Scotland.

About the Role

SPT is delivering a wide range of exciting programmes which will have a direct impact on our existing estate. We are seeking an experienced individual for the role of Facilities Manager to help shape that journey and bring expertise in facilities management to inform how we deliver SPT’s vision.

As a member of the Transport Operations team, you will lead and manage the maintenance, safety and operational readiness of all facilities across SPT’s estate. You will ensure that all sites meet regulatory standards, support service delivery and provide a safe, clean and efficient environment for passengers and staff.

Day‑to‑day, you will manage facilities operations of buildings, stations, depots and public areas across the SPT estate. You will also manage all resources, including budgets, people and assets, and develop budgets and resource plans. You will ensure compliance with health and safety, fire safety, LOLER and environmental regulations while overseeing planned and reactive maintenance schedules.

You will work closely with all teams across Transport Operations, Engineering and Maintenance to ensure works are coordinated and delivered efficiently with minimum disruption to customers.

Further details of the role and key responsibilities are set out in the job description.

The nature of this role may require you to work outside normal office hours on occasion to support operational requirements.

You will be based at Buchanan Bus Station, Killermont Street, Glasgow.

Please note, this position falls into the medium‑risk category under the Alcohol and Drugs policy and is therefore subject to random and for‑cause testing procedures.

About You

You will have in‑depth knowledge of facilities management, building management systems, fire safety and the Equality Act, as well as legislative requirements and delivering compliance across a diverse estate.

The successful candidate will have experience of tendering, negotiating and supervising third‑party contractors, and managing teams of in‑house staff and contractors. You will also have experience managing projects with multi‑stakeholders.

You will be highly motivated, with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, responsive to changing environments and able to operate within a developing team structure. You will bring a proactive approach to the role and operate autonomously.

It is essential that the successful candidate has a degree in a relevant discipline or a Facilities Management qualification and a Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH. Project management experience is desirable.

What we can offer
  • 33 days annual and public holiday entitlement (then 41 days after 5 years of service, pro rata to shift pattern)
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme – SPT contributes a percentage of your annualised pay in line with the Strathclyde Pension Fund requirements
  • Group life assurance cover
  • SPT actively encourages learning and development and is committed to ongoing learning to support career progression
  • Employee travel pass scheme – a Subway Smartcard to travel on the Glasgow Subway for free plus an additional card for a member of your household
  • Salary sacrifice bus or rail season ticket scheme – subsidised at a maximum of £645 toward the cost
  • Cycle‑to‑work scheme, childcare vouchers, employee assistance programme, long‑service awards, credit union
