The Role

The post holder will be a member of the Management Team for Commodities within the Procurement Department of NHS GGCC, led by the Commercial Team Manager (Digital Services). They will contribute to the development of the commodity team strategy and be responsible for delivering the overall procurement, health board and NHSS strategies. The post holder will lead and directly manage a team within the Commodities section of the NHS GGC Procurement Department, including associated divisions and directorates.

They will be responsible for ensuring maximum efficiency of resources, achievement of value for money and risk and liability management through negotiation and other procurement skills and techniques. The post holder will also lead NHS GGC’s representation from both clinical and non clinical representatives on National Procurement Commodity Advisory Panels, regional workshop events and other initiatives to ensure NHS GGCC’s requirements are met for national contracts.

The post holder will lead all aspects of multi million pound cross directorate contracts covered by their team’s portfolio including the analysis, selection, award and management of said contracts.

  • Commodity Manager post vacant in our Digital Services Procurement team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary
  • Shift pattern Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00
Key Responsibilities
  • Developing and leading the introduction and management of new and existing category A (National Pan Public Sector), B (NHS Specific), C (Local/Regional NHS Specific) and C1 (Local/Regional Cross Sector) Digital Services contracts that meet the needs of all participating customers, ensuring maximisation of collective buying power and economies of scale are achieved to deliver best value for money. This will require the post holder to act as the Lead or Commodity Sponsor on specific national and local commodity initiatives incorporating customer requirements from all NHS and pan public sector organisations and ensuring product training is delivered.
  • Achievement of cost-improvement targets to the financial benefit of NHS GGCC and elsewhere through close working with appropriate multi-functional empowered teams and tackling areas such as reducing consumption, variety reduction and standardisation of products used
  • Taking a lead role in developing, implementing and managing a structured controlled system for the introduction and management of all in scope products purchased by NHS GGCC based on financial, clinical and non-clinical information
  • Use the outputs of forward planning and analysis to provide advice and direction to divisional managers, clinical/non-clinical staff and finance managers on maximisation of collective buying power and all aspects of the procurement of goods and services. This includes specific advice on Public Procurement Regulations and compliance with NHS GGCC SFI’s
  • Maintain and develop good customer relationships and working in conjunction with the service delivery team including key stakeholders to ensure the total procurement service delivery is of the highest standard. Building relationships with customers which enhances their understanding of the procurement process and recognise the commodity team as a centre of excellence for commercial practice to deliver value for money for the organisation.
  • The post holder will make judgements on behalf of the organisation as lead procurement specialist for their portfolio content, in situations where there is no precedent, differing opinions or conflict.
