Join our dynamic team at UofG Sport and play a key role in delivering an outstanding experience across our busy sports facilities. We’re looking for a motivated Duty Manager to help lead our operational team, ensure excellent customer service, and keep our facilities safe, welcoming, and running smoothly.

  • Lead and support our operational teams across the Stevenson Building and Garscube Sports Complex
  • Maintain high standards of customer care, presentation, and safety
  • Manage daily operations including staffing, rotas, equipment, and facility readiness

  • Help drive improvements, efficiencies, and an excellent student and member experience

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role supports the effective day‑to‑day running of a large and busy sports facility by supervising and coordinating a team of operational staff. The role ensures high standards of customer care, appropriate staffing levels, and consistently safe, well‑presented facilities. Working within established procedures, this role motivates and deploys staff to deliver excellent service, maintain operational readiness, and uphold health and safety requirements across all areas.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Supervise operational staff, ensuring consistent application of HR policies, effective performance management, and identification of training needs.
  • Prepare staff rotas, allocate duties, and oversee administrative processes such as timesheets, procurement, and stock control.
  • Maintain a visible presence across facilities, proactively engaging with customers, monitoring service standards, and managing complaints in line with procedures.
  • Monitor cleaning, maintenance, and presentation standards across all sports facilities, ensuring high levels of hygiene, safety, and readiness.
  • Lead responses to emergencies (e.g., first aid, fire), ensure accurate incident reporting, and elevate issues appropriately.
  • Ensure safe use of equipment and chemicals, report maintenance issues promptly, conduct inventory checks, and place routine orders.
  • Oversee secure opening and closing of buildings, carry out security duties, and ensure adherence to all health and safety procedures.
  • Support the delivery of operational and lifeguard training programmes, including delivering Pool Lifeguard and First Aid training, exams and courses.
  • Monitor bookings, ensure facilities are prepared on time, and liaise with relevant departments to support smooth operations.
  • Assist with reception operations as necessary, provide membership information, and contribute to membership growth through excellent customer engagement.
  • Assist with Gym activities and operations where necessary, providing support to Active Lifestyles Team and member/student experience.
  • Assist in implementing and reviewing activity programmes, promoting a culture of continuous improvement within a student‑centred environment.
  • Attend meetings and training, maintain promotional materials, ensure compliance with University policies, and deputise for the Operations Manager when required.
Knowledge/Qualifications Essential
