The Scottish Health and Biomedical Institute (SHBI) is set to become a landmark initiative in UK health science - uniting Scotland’s leading biomedical research institutions to tackle chronic disease, reduce health inequalities and drive economic growth through innovation.

Itwillbe a new entity of extraordinary ambition and signals Scotland’s confidence and ability to deliver global solutions in life science and medical research.

To support the delivery of SHBI, the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) have provided funding for the development of the operational framework and governance model that will underpin this network, enabling a "once for Scotland" approach to health research, extending beyond the core partners to include others across the sector.

Job Purpose

The SHBI Project Manager will play a pivotal role in fostering and managing the relationships between the founding partners and support the engagement of the wider partner network of Scottish universities over the next 12-18 months. This is a key delivery role contributing to realising the founding partner’s ambitions for SHBI, including determining how SHBI will be constituted to deliver for Scotland and developing an operational framework that will support seamless working across partners.

The post will report directly to the Director of Professional Services for the University of Glasgow’s College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences and will line manage the SHBI administrator. They will work closely with senior academic and professional service colleagues from across the core University partners.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Identify, engage, and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders across SHBI academic partners, industry, funders and the NHS to foster collaboration to support and deliver the ambitions of SHBI.

2. Play a key role to provide leadership and advice to SHBI management, including senior academic and professional service leaders in both founding partners, identifying opportunities to broaden or deepen engagement, for mutual benefit, and monitoring the impact for SHBI.

3. Plan, develop and deliver the work packages required to realise the ambitions of the SFC programme in terms of partnership development and governance.

4. Proactively develop and lead the successful delivery of a series of workshops and discussions to facilitate shared ways of working between the partners.

5. Act as interface between the legal, financial and governance teams at the partner institutions to ensure that appropriate legal agreements can be developed that adhere to regulatory, ethical and legal frameworks but streamline and accelerate collaboration between partners.

6. Provide strategic input to and/or co-ordinate high-value bids for research and innovation funding including drafting proposals involving complex subject matters or funding options which may lead to regional, national or global funding opportunities.

7. Develop business cases and proposals for partnership initiatives to ensure financial sustainability and resource allocation.

8. Provide leadership on the coordination and delivery of partnership projects, ensuring timelines, deliverables and outcomes are met within agreed budgets

9. Lead, influence and collaborate with colleagues to develop and enhance marketing activities promoting the SHBI capabilities, achievements and successes to governments, industry, potential funders and other relevant stakeholders.

10. Provide regular insight, high level analysis and reporting to senior management, outlining progress against strategy and to assist in strategic decision-making.

11. Lead on the development of financial and progress reporting to SFC, including collating and interpreting information from partner organisations as required.
