Level: Senior leadershipA well-established sustainability and built environment consultancy is making a deliberate investment in growing its UK presence, with Scotland and Glasgow at the centre of that strategy.
As part of this growth, they are seeking a Strategic Sustainability Director to take a leading role in shaping, growing, and ultimately owning the sustainability offering.
This is not a delivery-only role.
It is a senior, commercially focused leadership position with genuine influence over strategy, people, and growth.
The Opportunity Lead and grow a sustainability business unit with full senior backing
Play a key role in business development, client relationships, and market positioning
Shape service lines, identify diversification opportunities, and drive long-term profitability
Build, manage, and develop high-performing teams
Act as a trusted advisor to clients, senior stakeholders, and the board
You will work closely with Directors and the Managing Director, contributing directly to company-wide strategy, financial performance, and future direction.
Key Responsibilities Business Development & Growth Drive lead generation and sales activity across sustainability and ESG services
Develop and maintain strong client relationships
Represent the business at industry events, networks, and professional forums
Identify and pursue new market opportunities and partnerships
Commercial & Financial Leadership Take responsibility for financial performance, KPIs, and growth targets
Support cashflow forecasting, invoicing, and commercial risk management
Manage overheads, margins, and resourcing to ensure sustainable profitability
Leadership & Operations Lead teams and act as Project Lead on key commissions
Support recruitment, performance management, and professional development
Maintain high standards of quality, compliance, and governance across projects
Quality, Compliance & Governance Ensure projects meet internal quality, profitability, and regulatory standards
Uphold ISO, Health & Safety, and internal systems compliance
Report regularly to the Managing Director and Board About You Operating at Director, Associate Director, or Practice Lead level
Commercially minded, with a strong track record in winning work and growing services
Comfortable managing people, budgets, and senior stakeholders
Technically credible within sustainability, ESG, carbon, or climate-related servicesA natural leader who enjoys building teams and shaping strategy
Chartership or relevant professional membership is expected, along with a commitment to maintaining CPD.Why Apply?
