NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking an exceptional senior healthcare leader for the role of General Manager Medicine, South Sector. This is a significant opportunity to lead a major portfolio of acute medical services within Scotland’s largest NHS Board, with responsibility for quality, operational performance, workforce, finance and service improvement.

Reporting to the South Sector Director, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across Medicine services, supporting a workforce of approximately 1,116 WTE and a budget of £101 million. You will work closely with senior clinical, nursing, professional and corporate colleagues to ensure services are safe, effective, responsive and sustainable.

About

The Role

As General Manager, you will be a key member of the South Sector leadership team. You will lead delivery against agreed quality, performance, activity, workforce and financial objectives, with a particular focus on unscheduled care, patient flow, capacity and sustainable service improvement.

You will translate Board and Acute Services priorities into clear operational plans, provide visible leadership on governance, risk, quality and safety, and support the development of integrated models of care across organisational and professional boundaries.

About You

We are looking for a senior leader with the credibility, resilience and influence to lead complex services through change. You will bring a strong track record of leadership within the NHS or a similarly complex organisation, with significant experience of operational delivery, financial and workforce management, service redesign and performance improvement.

You will combine strategic perspective with operational grip, working effectively with clinical and professional leaders to deliver safe, high-quality, person‑centred care. Your leadership style will be inclusive, collaborative and values‑led, with the ability to build confidence, strengthen partnerships and maintain momentum in a demanding acute environment.
