Working for Waukesha Bearings Ltd. as a Mechanical Fitter you will be responsible for preparing, final dressing and assembly of fluid-film bearings, to a given specification and in adherence to strict quality standards.
You will work at our highly successful site in Polmadie, Glasgow where we design and manufacture a range of hydrodynamic fluid-film bearings, active magnetic bearing systems and seals for applications in high-performing turbo machinery and industrial rotating equipment, principally for the oil & gas, power generation, marine and industrial markets.
Annual SalaryAnnual Salary
: £44,919.62 for weekly rotating shift pattern of early (6am) and backshifts (2pm), including 18% shift premium gives total earnings of £44,919.62, plus productivity bonuses, pension & life insurance.
- Either a HNC, SVQ/NVQ level 3 in Mechanical Engineering, or having completed a time-served mechanical apprenticeship
- A minimum of 5 years of experience, working as an industrial mechanical fitter, following any period of apprentice/traineeship
- Ability to interpret metric/imperial engineering drawings
- Experience of preparing machined components for final assembly
- Experience of working with hand tools, rotating equipment, air tools, gas torches, overhead cranes, manual handling and lifting and slinging
- Knowledge of precision machining processes is advantageous
- The responsibilities of this position fall into four main areas;
Assembly, Final Dressing, Health & Safety and Continuous Improvement - Working to quality specifications to ensure that bearings are in line with Waukesha Bearings quality standards at the point of assembly
- Ensuring a safe working environment by adhering to statutory and Company Health and Safety Regulations
- Working in conjunction with the Production Manager and Shift Managers to resolve issues relating to the assembly of the components, such as defects, material shortages and quality issues
- Supporting Continuous Improvement activities by investigating and analysing causes of assembly issues to determine root cause; develop and assist with implementation of improvement actions to improve assembly processes
