Are you an experienced Manual Machinist with horizontal boring experience looking for a stable, long-term opportunity within a highly skilled engineering workshop?
We're recruiting for a Manual Machine Operator to join an established engineering organisation in Glasgow, working as part of an experienced workshop team on the machining of complex mechanical and propulsion-related components.
Horizontal boring experience is a key requirement for this position.
We're particularly interested in speaking with machinists who are confident operating traditional/manual machinery and can work accurately from technical drawings and specifications.
Experience with in the marine or maritime sector would be highly advantageous
, although candidates from other heavy engineering, manufacturing or precision machining environments will also be considered.
As a Manual Machine Operator, you'll be responsible for machining a range of components to the required specifications and quality standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Operating manual machining equipment, with a particular focus on horizontal boring
- Using manual lathes, mills and other traditional machine tools
- Machining parts and components accurately to technical specifications
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
- Preparing components for machining, including cleaning and masking where required
- Inspecting finished components to ensure they meet required tolerances and quality standards
- Recording completed work, process parameters, materials and inspection results
- Identifying and troubleshooting machining or equipment issues
- Working closely with the wider workshop team to ensure projects are completed efficiently and on time
- Following all relevant health, safety and quality procedures
- Supporting continuous improvement across workshop processes
We're looking for an experienced, hands-on machinist with a strong understanding of traditional/manual machining.
You'll ideally have:
- Previous horizontal boring experience - this is particularly important for the role
- Experience operating manual machinery such as horizontal borers, lathes and/or mills
- Previous experience within a machine shop, workshop or heavy engineering environment
- The ability to confidently read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- A strong understanding of machining tolerances and quality requirements
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Relevant technical, vocational or metalworking qualifications would be beneficial
- Marine, maritime or propulsion experience would be advantageous but is not essential
