CNC Machinist

Location: Glasgow City

Working for Dover Precision Components as a Skilled CNC Machinist, you will be utilising CNC machining centres for turning, milling or grinding operations to produce customised designs from a variety of steel grades, copper, brass, aluminium and bronze.

As we continue to experience sustained long term growth in our key markets, supplying OEM customers in the power generation, transport and renewable energy sectors amongst others, we have recently invested in several new machine tools that are arriving with us next month, to cover high-precision boring and complex multi-axis milling, for which we now require an additional 7 x Skilled Machinist / Operator’s – Turner’s and Miller’s to cover both days and night shifts.

Our products include a range of fluid-film bearings, isolators & mechanical seals supplied under our brand’s Waukesha Bearings and Inpro/Seal, the site being one of eight located around the world, supplying the regions in which they are located.

Annual Salaries (37-hour working week, Monday to Friday. Permanent Contracts):

 * £48,212.62 for a weekly rotating shift pattern of early (6am) and backshifts (2pm)

 * £54,340.65 for working on the night shift.

* Rates are inclusive of shift premium. Additional benefits include productivity bonuses, employer pension contributions up to 13%, life insurance, and 25 days AL (plus bank holidays). Attractive overtime available at 1.5x / 2x.

What You Will Bring

* Time-served apprenticeship in a machining discipline, or SVQ/NVQ Level 3, or HNC in Mechanical Engineering.

* A minimum of 5 years’ experience operating CNC machine tools within a lean-manufacturing work environment.

* Established milling, grinding or turning experience utilising multi-axis machine tools, ideally Correa and/or Doosan (DN Solutions) or similar.

* Experience working with machine control systems such as Fanuc, Mazak, Heidenhain or Haas.

* Proven ability to hold tight machining tolerances of less than .0025mm.

* Experienced with precision inspection equipment including, but not limited to, micrometres, callipers, height gauges and bore gauges.

* Ideally with experience in the power generation, oil & gas, aerospace or similar environments.

What You Will Do

* Read process sheets, blueprints and sketches of parts to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up and operating requirements.

* Locate and download programs from a DNC storage system.

* Interpret work instructions, identify, select and install proper tooling for operations being performed.

* Calculate proper feeds and speeds for a variety of steel grades, copper, brass, aluminium and bronze.

* Read, understand, edit or write complete programs.

* Intuitively understand capabilities of tooling and machinery.

* Understand applicable quality systems and perform necessary quality inspections.

* Apply principles of Lean Manufacturing to reduce setup times and improve productivity.

* Visually inspect final components.

* Perform boxing of parts to include cleaning, oiling, wrapping and boxing the final product for shipment.

* Perform cleaning, fitting, filing, tapping, reaming, blending, polishing and aligning to ensure free action of movable parts and operating requirements.

* Use precision measuring instruments and gauging devices to perform various quality inspection procedures, including dimensional verification.

* Properly identify components after assembly/manufacture.
