Position: Young People’s Engagement Coordinator

The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF) is looking for a Young People’s Engagement Coordinator to support audience development and engagement activity for this year’s festival.

Supported through funding from the Corra Foundation, this work will help highlight and celebrate young artists aged 18–25, while strengthening engagement with young people across the festival through meaningful audience development and participatory activity.

  • Fee: £3,000 (equivalent to 15 days at £200 per day)
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver an engagement and audience development plan focused on young people.
  • Support outreach and relationship-building with youth organisations, colleges, universities, and community groups.
  • Work collaboratively with the SMHAF team and commissioned artists to increase participation and attendance among young audiences.
  • Identify opportunities to promote the young people’s showcase and related festival activity to new audiences.
  • Support the development of accessible and engaging promotional activity across digital and in-person platforms.
  • Advise on approaches to ensuring young people feel welcomed, represented, and connected to the festival.
  • Attend regular team meetings (online).
Person Specification
  • Experience in youth engagement, audience development, participatory arts, or community engagement.
  • Experience working with young people in creative or community settings.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Understanding of inclusive and accessible engagement practices.
  • Knowledge of the Scottish arts, youth, or community sectors.
  • Understanding of mental health.
  • A collaborative, proactive approach and willingness to adapt.
