The Role

This post is an opportunity for a Band 5 NMC registered Nurse to join the South Glasgow City School Nursing Team as a Community staff nurse. Working out of Pollok Health Centre, the successful candidate must have NMC Registration RM/RMN and may also have additional qualifications or experience working within Children or Mental health services and an interest in pursuing the SCNPH;
Master’s qualification in Public Health (School Nurse). This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a sponsor and NHSGGC is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

Monday‑Friday; 18.5 hrs per week. Shift pattern:
Week 1 – Tues, Wed 08:30‑15:30;
Week 2 – Tue, Wed 08:30‑15:30, Thu 08:30‑16:00. Salary is pro‑rata for part‑time hours.

Key Responsibilities

The Band 5 staff nurse will complete work delegated and supervised by the Band 6 School Nurse in accordance with the needs of the service and in line with national pathways. Working with the School Nurse to assess, monitor and implement action, they exercise a level of autonomy in decision making. Workload includes completing delegated interventions in response to identified health and emotional needs within Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC), recognising, mitigating and responding to risk factors for harm and neglect.

They will maintain accurate record keeping, refer to other services where appropriate and work within a skill‑mix team. Delegation from the SCNPH School Nurse allows face‑to‑face and non‑face‑to‑face work without direct supervision.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and Experience Required

The successful candidate must have NMC Registration RM/RMN;
Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) qualification – Part 3 of the NMC Specialist Register;
Disclosure Scotland (PVG) and any additional postgraduate qualification and skills. A driving licence is advantageous but not essential. Opportunities for further learning and development are provided through the Transforming Nursing roles strategy and the Learning and Development Plan for GGC. Desirable skills include emotional health and wellbeing, anxiety management, child protection knowledge, peer support, and professional and operational support from an aligned team leader.

Practice supervision and assessment of pre‑registration students is also required.
