NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our General Surgery team within the South Sector. This role provides the chance to work in a fast‑paced acute surgical environment, delivering high‑quality, compassionate care to patients with a wide range of surgical needs. You will be part of a supportive multidisciplinary team focused on safe, effective and person‑centred care.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
  • Based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
  • Full Time, Permanent.
  • Shift Pattern:
    Monday to Sunday, including days, nights and 12‑hour shifts.
Key responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual programmes of care to deliver high standards of nursing care.
  • Provide safe, effective postoperative and acute surgical care to patients and support their recovery.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care.
  • Maintain accurate, timely patient records in line with professional and organisational standards.
  • Supervise, support, and mentor students and less experienced staff within the clinical area.
  • Contribute to the day‑to‑day organisation of the ward, ensuring effective use of resources.
  • Promote a safe clinical environment by adhering to infection prevention, health, and safety policies.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Degree in Nursing or equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Knowledge of acute surgical nursing care and common general surgical conditions.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team in a busy clinical environment.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and time management skills.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and revalidation requirements.
  • Ability to deliver compassionate patient‑centred care in line with NHSGGC values.
