Overview

The role requires a live NMC UK pin. The award‑winning team at Princess Royal Maternity offers experienced Neonatal Nurses the opportunity to apply for a Band 7 role within our highly motivated community. We deliver a friendly and progressive neonatal service comprising Level 3 intensive care, high dependency and special care cots, a 4‑bed rooming‑in suite and a well‑developed community liaison service.

We are a ‘Baby Friendly’ family‑friendly department, striving for high levels of attainment against national markers. We seek an enthusiastic SCN with the right level of experience and skills to enhance our service and lead quality improvement, support staff development, and shape the future of neonatal care.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
  • Princess Royal Maternity
  • Permanent, full‑time
  • Part‑time hours will be considered
  • Rotational day & night shifts across 7 days, 11.5 hours per shift
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide visible clinical leadership and maintain responsibility for the safe and effective management of the ward or department
  • Lead, support and develop the nursing and midwifery team to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care
  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance, patient safety, infection prevention and quality standards
  • Coordinate the patient journey, promoting effective communication, discharge planning and multidisciplinary working
  • Manage workforce planning, resource utilisation, recruitment and staff performance within the clinical area
  • Drive continuous quality improvement through audit, patient feedback and evidence‑based practice
  • Contribute to service development and support the delivery of local and national healthcare priorities
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
  • First level Nursing or Midwifery qualification with current NMC registration relevant to the area of practice
  • Neonatal qualification and evidence of ongoing professional development to degree level or equivalent
  • Significant post‑registration experience within a neonatal or relevant clinical setting
  • Demonstrable leadership experience with the ability to motivate, support and develop teams
  • Strong knowledge of clinical governance, patient safety, infection prevention and quality improvement methodologies
  • Excellent communication, organisational and decision‑making skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Good IT and information management skills together with a commitment to delivering the highest standards of patient care and experience
