The RoleBand 5 NMC Registered Nurse – Ophthalmology Outpatient Department, Gartnavel General Hospital. A live NMC UK pin is required for consideration.
The successful candidate will work as part of the Ophthalmology team, responsible for assessment delivery and supervision of all care needs within the outpatient setting. You will collaborate with nursing and medical teams to provide evidence‑based care, assess patients’ needs, implement and evaluate care plans, and maintain professional development.

Dayshift – Monday to Saturday
- Provide assessment of patient needs, implementation and evaluation of evidence‑based care programmes, considering lifestyle, gender and cultural background, and ensuring involvement of patient, family, carers and significant others.
- Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.
- Practice within the legal and ethical framework established by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and national legislation.
- Adhere to NHS, NHS Greater Glasgow and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) legislation, policy, guidelines and procedures.
- Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well‑being and future lifestyle by providing open, transparent and inclusive information to support shared decision‑making.
- Ensure completion of clinical appraisals for pre‑ and post‑registration nurses.
- Demonstrate ongoing professional development.
- Identify research and clinical audit priorities in conjunction with relevant professional groups.
- Lead the development of the research and clinical audit plan for the ward/department.
- First‑level registered nurse.
- Must fulfil the criteria outlined in the job description.
- Ophthalmology experience desirable.
- A minimum of 27 days annual leave, increasing with length of service, plus public holidays.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part‑time working hours will be reduced on a pro‑rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring pay remains unchanged.
