Position: Nurse Practitioner Band 6 (Annexe 21)

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is Monday–Friday with scope for evening and weekend rotation.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Nurse Practitioner to join the Paediatric Pre‑assessment team within the Royal Hospital for Children.

We are an outpatient, nurse‑led service that carries out a nursing and medical assessment of children and young people (CYP) requiring a procedure under general anaesthetic. We work collaboratively with input and support from a dedicated team of anaesthetists.

Responsibilities
  • Take patient history and perform a physical examination of the CYP.
  • Prepare the patient and their family/carers for the procedure and refer any anaesthetic, medical or psychological issues to the appropriate discipline.
  • Prioritise workload in a fast‑paced environment and use sound clinical skills for the assessment of patient needs to ensure an effective patient journey.
  • Participate in audits and contribute to the planning, development and delivery of the service.

If the successful candidate does not hold a recognised clinical assessment qualification then they will be required to obtain this and the Annex 21 policy will apply.
