We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

We are looking for a dedicated Neonatal Nurse/Midwife to join one of the Neonatal Units within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. There are three neonatal units across the organisation, with Level 3 neonatal care provided at the Royal Hospital for Children and Princess Royal Maternity Hospital, and Level 2 neonatal care provided at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley. Working in line with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards and NHSGGC policies, you will support babies and their families throughout their neonatal journey, from admission through to discharge.

You will assess care needs, develop and deliver individualised programmes of care in partnership with families and the multidisciplinary team, and evaluate outcomes to ensure the highest standards of family-centred neonatal care. You may also provide leadership and operational support in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse or Ward Manager.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
  • Permanent Role
  • Royal Hospital for Children
  • 33.75 Hours (LD/LN Rotational Shifts)
Key responsibilities:

You will deliver high-quality, family-integrated neonatal care to babies with a range of dependencies, ensuring care is tailored to their physical, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs. Working closely with families and the multidisciplinary team, you will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, maintain accurate clinical documentation, and contribute to clinical decision-making. You will communicate effectively with families, colleagues and external agencies where required, promote parental involvement in care, and support a safe and compassionate environment for patients and families.

The role includes supervising and supporting junior staff, contributing to teaching, audit, research and quality improvement activities, and ensuring safe use of specialist neonatal equipment including incubators, monitoring systems, infusion devices and phototherapy equipment. You will also take responsibility for your own professional development, participate in NMC revalidation requirements, and provide leadership support to the clinical area when required.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
  • First-level Nursing or Midwifery qualification registered with the NMC (relevant part of the register).
  • Neonatal qualification relevant to the specialty.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive and professional approach to patient care.
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the service.
  • Knowledge of neonatal care practices and family-integrated care principles.
  • Experience of using electronic patient record systems such as Badger and Trak Care.
  • Ability to safely use and support others in the use of specialist neonatal equipment.
What we offer:

We offer a wide range of supportive policies designed to enhance your employee journey, including a comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme, Cycle to Work Scheme, bursary scheme and extensive learning and development opportunities.

  • A minimum of 27 days annual leave, increasing with length of service, plus public holidays
