Specialist Mental Health Nurse - CAMHS

As a Senior Mental Health Nurse within the Intensive CAMHS & Unscheduled CAMHS Service, you will work as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team providing specialist mental health assessment, intervention and care coordination for children and young people experiencing acute mental health crisis. Using a recovery‑focused, strengths‑based approach, you will assess, plan, implement and evaluate complex programmes of care while promoting person‑centred practice, self‑management and positive outcomes.

The role involves working autonomously within community and near‑to‑home settings, while also providing leadership, supervision and support to registered and unregistered staff. You will work closely with patients, carers and partner agencies to ensure safe, effective and compassionate care is delivered in line with professional standards, clinical governance requirements and relevant legislation.

The post holder will manage a complex caseload of children and young people requiring specialist mental health care, undertaking comprehensive psychosocial assessments, risk assessments and care planning activities. Responsibilities include delivering evidence‑based interventions, coordinating care, administering and monitoring prescribed treatments, promoting health and wellbeing, supporting recovery and relapse prevention, and developing therapeutic relationships with patients and carers. The role requires close partnership working with statutory and third‑sector agencies, active participation in clinical governance, supervision and reflective practice, mentoring students and junior staff, supporting staff development, maintaining accurate clinical records, and deputising for the Nurse Team Leader when required.

The post holder will also contribute to service improvement, quality assurance, research activities and achievement of team performance targets.

• Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) or Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) with Level 1 NMC Registration.
• Educated to Degree level or equivalent.
• Completion of a formal evidence‑based psychological therapies or psychological approaches to care programme.
• Specialist knowledge of mental health nursing care, including physical healthcare.
• Advanced knowledge of mental health assessment, risk assessment, recovery and wellbeing approaches.
• Knowledge and application of mental health legislation, rights‑based practice and professional frameworks.
• Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
• Evidence of participation in Clinical Supervision and reflective practice.
• Evidence of CMHN Career Development Framework Level 6 Senior Practitioner capabilities across clinical practice, leadership, facilitation of learning and research/development.
• Experience using digital technology, information systems, email and Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience working within community mental health settings.
• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, influencing and decision‑making skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise workload, delegate appropriately and manage competing demands.
• Ability to build effective therapeutic relationships and work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Working knowledge of the NMC Code.
• Ability to undertake community visits and travel across the service area as required.
