Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Future Forest Company is looking for a Ranger to play a critical role in our mainland Ranger team.

Our work is not finished when a plan is written or a tree is planted. Landscapes recover because people return, observe what is changing, make good decisions and keep the work moving. This Ranger will help turn our restoration priorities, estate responsibilities and commitments to partners into visible, completed and evidenced action on the ground.

This is a practical, field based role in every season and all weathers. You will inspect sites, identify what needs to happen, organise people and resources, carry out practical work and make sure actions are completed safely and to a standard we are proud of.

Everyone in our Ranger team shares core responsibilities, including habitat work, repairs, site inspections, events and visitor engagement. Your particular strength will be operational delivery: creating order from a busy landscape, keeping multiple sites moving and seeing work through from observation to outcome.

What You ll Be Doing

  • Carrying out regular site inspections and identifying maintenance needs, restoration priorities, risks and emerging problems
  • Completing practical estate and habitat work, including fences, gates, paths, signage, drainage, vegetation management and access infrastructure
  • Turning agreed priorities into clear, deliverable work, with the right materials, equipment, people and permissions in place
  • Coordinating and supervising contractors, volunteers and other site users, ensuring work is safe, well briefed and completed properly
  • Supporting habitat restoration, woodland establishment, vegetation management and deer management activity
  • Hosting corporate IMPACT days, community groups, volunteers and visitors, helping people understand and contribute to the work
  • Maintaining tools and equipment so the Ranger team is ready to operate effectively
  • Using our field operating system, to record observations, manage actions, capture evidence and keep the wider team informed
  • Responding sensibly to weather events, damage, access issues and changing conditions, resolving what you can and escalating what you cannot

What We re Looking For

  • Practical experience in estates, countryside management, forestry, conservation, farming, construction, grounds maintenance or similar outdoor work
  • Strong personal ownership, with the judgement to decide what needs attention and the discipline to see it through
  • The ability to organise your own week across several locations while responding to changing priorities
  • Someone equally comfortable carrying out practical work, coordinating other people and speaking with
  • visitors
  • A calm, capable and resourceful approach to problems on site
  • Good communication and record keeping, including confidence using straightforward digital systems
  • A sensible and proactive approach to health and safety
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly between our mainland estates
  • Tickets such as chainsaw, brush cutter, wood chipper or outdoor first aid
  • Experience supervising contractors, volunteers or practical site projects
  • Deer management experience, trailer entitlement or experience operating estate machinery
  • Familiarity with digital mapping, field data collection or drone operations

Why This Role?

This is a trusted role with real autonomy and visible responsibility. You will be joining a certified B Corp

that measures success not by how busy we look, but by what genuinely changes on the land. You will have the freedom to organise your work, the support of a wider team and the satisfaction of seeing practical action become measurable recovery.
