Senior Quality Inspector

Hillington, Glasgow | Permanent, Full-Time | Day Shift

First Achieve are recruiting on behalf of a leading precision engineering manufacturer for an experienced Senior Quality Inspector to join their Quality team in Hillington, Glasgow.

The company specialises in the manufacture of complex, tight-tolerance machined components and assemblies for customers across sectors including Defence, Aerospace, Satellite, Electronics, Medical and General Engineering. With a strong focus on right-first-time delivery and high-quality standards, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quality Inspector to take a senior role within a growing business.

The Role

As Senior Quality Inspector, you will take ownership of inspection activities across the production lifecycle, including first-off, in-process and final inspection. You will act as a technical point of reference for CMM measurement, engineering drawings, GD&T and non-conformance resolution, while also supporting and developing junior members of the inspection team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out first-off, in-process and final inspection of precision CNC machined components.
  • Operate and programme Mitutoyo CMM equipment.
  • Use conventional metrology equipment including micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, profilometers and surface finish testers.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T and tight dimensional tolerances.
  • Produce First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) and support customer source inspections.
  • Raise, investigate and resolve Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
  • Lead root cause analysis using 8D, 5-Why and Ishikawa methodologies.
  • Drive corrective and preventative actions through to completion.
  • Manage the calibration programme and ensure measurement equipment remains within calibration.
  • Review material certifications, certificates of conformity and traceability documentation.
  • Support internal and external ISO 9001 audits and provide supporting evidence.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior inspection staff.
  • Contribute to quality planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
What We're Looking For Essential
  • Minimum 5 years' quality inspection experience within precision CNC machining or subcontract precision engineering.
  • Strong hands-on experience programming and operating Mitutoyo CMMs, including independently setting up and executing inspection programmes.
  • Confident interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T and tight dimensional tolerances.
  • Good understanding of ISO 9001, NCR processes and CAPA.
  • Competent using conventional inspection and measurement equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong documentation skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the confidence to present quality information to internal teams and customers.
Desirable
  • Experience with in Defence, Aerospace, Satellite or Medical Device manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of AS9100, AQAP-2110 or equivalent quality standards.
  • Experience producing FAIR reports to AS9102.
  • ONC/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent apprenticeship background.
