Job Purpose

We are looking for an experienced bioinformatician to provide outstanding analysis of several immune and rheumatic scRNA-seq, bulk RNA-seq and epigenetic datasets. These datasets are being generated in University of Glasgow, as part of an exciting collaboration with our industry partner Eli-Lilly. The post is collaborative and will involve working alongside clinicians and wet-lab scientists to:

help design experiments
process the data
explore the data with reference to our translational aims and research questions
assist with figure and manuscript generation

We are looking for someone passionate about immune research who is hard-working and dedicated. The postholder will report to Professor Carl Goodyear.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Assist and contribute to the groups research objectives, in collaboration with other bioinformaticians and researchers, and in accordance with the project’s deliverables.

To perform internationally competitive research in the analysis of transcriptomic and epigenetic data.

To provide analytical and statistical expertise, and algorithms for data from transcriptomic and epigenetic sequencing and other experimental approaches.

To develop and apply innovative computational approaches for the analysis of large sequence datasets from next-generation sequencing and/or proteomics technologies to support the research group.

To provide professional advice and training in data analysis for researchers.

To participate in external research collaborations, and present research at national and international research workshops or conferences.

Contribute to the organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students, less experienced members of the group and external training courses on transcriptomics and epigenetics.

Develop and enhance your research profile and reputation, and that of the University of Glasgow, including writing and contributing to publications of international quality journals, enhancing research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit.

Document research output including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate.

Contribute to the identification of potential funding sources and assist in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research.

Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team/group meetings/seminars/workshops across the research area and wider community (e.g. with academic partners).

Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group, including budget and expenditure monitoring.

Keep up-to-date with relevant bioinformatics literature, practical knowledge base, and recent advances in the field/discipline.

Engage in personal, professional and career development to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with the role.

Track record of independent and joint published research to establish and maintain your expert reputation in the subject area.

Ability to survey the research literature and environment, understand the research challenges associated with the project and subject area, and develop/implement a suitable research strategy.

Undertake any other duties of equivalent standing as assigned by the PI and/or Bioinformatics Team Leader.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Knowledge/Qualifications Essential:

A1. PhD (Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework Level 12) in either bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science or mathematics, in a biological domain plus relevant experience.
