Position Overview

Be part of myDNA’s expansion within the University of Glasgow’s Clinical Innovation Zone at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus. Supported by a 180-strong global team with over 20 years of expertise across the U.S.A. and Australia, this position puts you at the core of our sample intake, extraction, and molecular diagnostic pipelines as we scale services for major commercial partners like Bupa UK.

In this hands‑on technical role, you will execute end‑to‑end front‑end processes—from receiving and logging specimens in LIMS to performing automated/manual DNA extractions and PCR setups for downstream systems like MassARRAY. You will actively drive pipeline excellence by operating liquid handling robotics, maintaining strict ISO 15189 / UKAS quality compliance, and ensuring our Glasgow facility runs at peak performance through proactive inventory care and laboratory upkeep.

We are actively seeking two (2) candidates to join our team in this role.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Sample Intake, Accessioning & Logistics

  • Receive, inspect, and log incoming laboratory sample packages (including postal/courier pickups), ensuring loss prevention and specimen integrity. Communicate with clinicians and external laboratories regarding specimen transport and storage requirements.
  • Unbox, sort, and route specimens appropriately, logging details accurately into LIMS and internal databases.
  • Scan and archive consent forms, requisitions, and accompanying documentation.
  • Identify and troubleshoot sample discrepancies (e.g., mismatched barcodes, missing information, damaged collections, or unpaid accounts) and communicate resolutions across departments.

DNA Extraction & Molecular Workflows

  • Execute automated and manual DNA extraction procedures on incoming biological samples.
  • Program and operate automated liquid handlers and other laboratory instrumentation
  • Perform quantification and quality assessment (QC) of extracted nucleic acids.
  • Maintain and curate extracted nucleic acid samples in an organized storage system with accurate digital tracking.
  • Assist other pipelines with additional workflows as needed.
  • Laboratory Maintenance & Operational Support
  • Prepare and maintain reagent stocks, rack tips, fill tubes, wash racks, and organize lab consumables.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels for essential laboratory and accessioning supplies.
  • Perform routine equipment upkeep, clean work areas, and complete daily/weekly facility maintenance (temperature monitoring, trash removal, surface wipe‑downs, and station sanitation).

Quality, Compliance & Team Collaboration

  • Adhere strictly to all laboratory SOPs, safety policies, quality control protocols, and UK GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Document all routine records, protocol deviations, and corrective actions thoroughly.
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical issues with equipment, assays, or accessioning workflows.
  • Collaborate positively with cross‑functional team members to achieve departmental throughput and turnaround goals.
