Research Assistant of Surgical Imaging Processing (843742)

A Part‑Time Research Assistant is sought to join the Department of Design, Manufacture and Engineering Management to undertake research in digital surgery within an EPSRCTransformative Healthcare Technologies project “Real time digital twin assisted surgery” (EP/X033686/1)  The Research Assistant will carry out research on surgical imaging processing.

The Research Associate will disseminate project information and knowledge through journal publications and conference presentations and contribute to lectures, tutorials and laboratories within the department, as appropriate.

As a Research Assistant, you will assist in the delivery of the research activities as part of a team, working under the general supervision of senior colleagues. You will conduct literature reviews, develop questionnaires, conduct surveys, collect and collate data, and undertake and record the outcomes of experiments. You will manage and prioritise your own workload and ensure that all activities are completed to deadlines and youwill write up the results of your own research and contribute tothe production of research reports and publications.

You willinput as a team member to administrative activities and assist,where required, with relevant teaching and knowledge exchange activities.

To be considered for the role, you will be educated to a minimumof Degree level in MSc in an appropriate discipline, and you willhave sufficient breadth or depth of knowledge in mechatronics,Mechanical Engineering, AI or data technologies. You will have knowledge of appropriate research methods, have an ability toplan and prioritise your own workload, with general supervision,and you will have an ability to work within a team environment.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills,with the ability to listen, engage and persuade, and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences.

Whilst not essential for the role, applications are welcomed from candidates with: a higher Degree in a relevant discipline, some relevant work experience, membership/working towards membership of a relevant Chartered/professional body (including the Higher Education Academy), experience of relevant student supervision and teaching activities and experience of knowledge exchange related activities.

Initial interviews have been scheduled for the end of September/Early October 2026.
