Job Summary

You will join a 5‑year flagship EPSRC Programme Grant, SUSTAIN, developing next‑generation sustainable heterogeneous E‑Textiles and Imperceptible Human Interfaces. The role focuses on designing custom ASICs in advanced CMOS technology for wireless power transfer, RF sensing, and passive RF communication, supporting high‑performance flexible and printed circuitry for wearable systems. You will also develop large‑area demonstrators and contribute to publications, industry engagement, and cross‑disciplinary collaboration.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct assigned research in line with project deliverables and lab strategy
  • Contribute to acquisition, set‑up, maintenance and integration of experimental or computational equipment; develop theoretical models and analysis strategies
  • Document research output, maintain records, draft technical reports and papers
  • Present work at conferences, seminars, colloquia and workshops
  • Organise, supervise, mentor and train undergraduate or postgraduate students and junior team members
  • Perform administrative tasks related to group and school activities (budget, expenditure, purchase)
  • Undertake any other duties of equivalent standing as assigned by the PI
  • Contribute to enhancing the University’s international profile in line with the Strategic Plan “World Changers Together”
  • For Appointment at Grade 7:
    • Perform duties with higher independence, leadership, and responsibility; plan funding, collaborate, publish and mentor colleagues
    • Establish and sustain a track record of independent and joint publication, maintaining expert reputation in the subject area
Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Essential:
    • A1:
      Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 10 (Honours Degree) – MSc or PhD progress acceptable or equivalent professional qualifications
    • A2:
      Specialized theoretical and practical knowledge in at least one of: RF sensors, RF circuit design, and wireless system design
    • A3:
      Knowledge of IT software (e.g., Matlab, Python, LaTeX) as appropriate
    • A4:
      Knowledge of project‑specific technical models, equipment or techniques
  • For Appointment at Grade 7:
    • A5:
      Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) plus track record of emerging independence or equivalent professional qualifications
    • A6:
      Higher level or deeper specialisation of A2, including experience in project proposal writing

  • Essential:
    • C1:
      Experience in CMOS ASIC design and implementation with proven tape‑out experience
    • C2:
      Research creativity and cross‑disciplinary collaborative ability
    • C3:
      Excellent communication skills (oral and written), including public presentations and clear communication of complex data

      Breadth/ depth of specialist subject knowledge and research/teaching methods

      Project or subject‑specific experience in electromagnetics and antennas within systems

      Scientific writing experience
    • E4:
      Evidence of high‑quality publications within relevant field
  • For Appointment at Grade 7:
    • E5:
      Normally sufficient post‑doctoral experience in related field
    • E6:
      Leading contribution in academic activities
    • E7:
      Demonstrated independence – identification of objectives, design, funding pursuit, drafting papers
