Hydro Ecologist UK WIDE – Jacobs

During the last three days, Jacobs invites 25 applicants to apply for the Hydro Ecologist UK WIDE role, a Principal position responsible for assessing the ecological impact of water abstraction across the United Kingdom.

Your impact as a Principal Hydro ecologist will involve applying your expertise to shape sustainable water‑management strategies, leading sustainability assessments under the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP), and applying Water Framework Directive standards to interpret ecological data.

Your work will support river restoration, strategic resource planning, and performance auditing for major water companies. You will collaborate with specialists in freshwater ecology, hydrology, hydrogeology, and geomorphology, contributing to an interdisciplinary team that tackles complex environmental challenges.

Requirements
  • Extensive industry experience, ideally specialising in hydro ecology
  • Experience in Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) investigations or equivalent
  • Demonstrable experience working on low‑flow investigations
  • Ability to design ecological monitoring programmes
  • Experience analysing large environmental datasets and applying statistics
  • Application of Water Framework Directive standards and thresholds, including classification of ecological monitoring data
  • Stakeholder engagement experience
  • Chartered membership of a professional body (or sufficient experience to obtain chartership)
