Hours: 1 x 17.5per week(Community Development Team)and2 x 35
per week(Early Years Children and Families Team)

Community Development - This role is working 17.5 hours per week. A standard working pattern is Monday 9am - 5pm, Tuesday 9am – 5pm and Wednesday 9am – 12.30pm but is negotiable and there will be an expectation to be flexible to work evenings and weekends in line with service need.

Early Years, Children and Families – This role is working 35 hours per week. A standard working pattern is Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm and there will be an expectation to be flexible to work evenings and weekends in line with service need.

Contract type: Permanent

Pay details:The listed salary is for a full-time role. If you’re applying for a part-time or bank job, we will calculate your pay on a pro-rata basis.

What you’ll do

We are seeking a dedicated Community Learning and Development professionals to join our teams as a Libraries and Communities Officer (Community Development & Early Years, Children and Families). Reporting to the Libraries and Communities Co-ordinator, you will be a key representative for Glasgow Life, delivering high-quality services across the city, aligned with our service plan, community needs, with a strong focus on supporting those who are most marginalised.

Your work will be underpinned by Glasgow’s Community Learning and Development Plan and Glasgow Life’s Service Plan, ensuring our activities meet strategic city-wide goals.

Within the Community Development Team, the Libraries and Communities Officer will work across three core themes of Community Engagement, Community Capacity Building and Wellbeing to empower local residents.

You will develop and deliver diverse activities—from focus groups to participatory budgeting—ensuring local voices effectively shape services. Through Capacity Building, you will provide vital development, governance and funding support to help local organisations become more resilient. Your work in Wellbeing will involve leading BeWell initiatives, connecting vulnerable individuals and New Scots to cultural and leisure activities to reduce social isolation.

Within the Early Years, Children and Families Team, the Libraries and Communities Officers will work across three core themes of Community Engagement, Community Capacity Building and Health and Wellbeing for families.

You will develop and manage a team of staff to deliver play programmes, coordinate the delivery of Education based and community based sessions, create and facilitate inclusive opportunities for children with additional support needs and their families. Through your work in community capacity building you will provide vital support to help local organisations deliver play opportunities within their communities, provide governance and funding support.

The Libraries and Communities Officer for Early Years, Children and Families will have an essential role in supporting children’s social, physical, emotional, creative and intellectual wellbeing through self-directed play and family engagement, developing new and innovative approaches to play and family support.

Collaboration is central to these roles and you will work with partners externally and internally. You will work closely with internal colleagues to improve the customer journey, engage effectively with our service users, and grow our audiences. As part of the Glasgow Life Libraries and Communities service, you will join an established team comprising two interdependent units:
Service Development and Operations, Infrastructure & Customer Experience.

Our service manages 32 community libraries, the Mitchell Library, and various community facilities, designing programmes that promote learning and personal growth across all age groups. Whether supporting digital inclusion, literacy, or local history, we work together to remove barriers for Glasgow’s citizens. The Learning and Development team is available to support candidates who have questions on how to best present their application for this role.
