Learning Disability Caseworker - Priority Enquiries

Do you have experience of giving information and advice in an advice service setting? Could you deliver advice from your home, and occasionally travel to Mencap offices and events, when needed?

The Learning Disability Helpline in England are seeking two Learning Disability Caseworkers to lead safeguarding and advising on higher risk cases.
This is a full time (37.5 hours per week) permanent position. You will work primarily from home with the option to use Mencap sites; there may be travel, varied hours, and attendance at events required.

As a caseworker in our service you will:

  • Lead and respond to safeguarding alerts, carrying out follow-up casework and challenging Local Authorities or other parties where necessary.
  • Confidently manage complex and high-risk enquiries, providing clear, end-to-end advice to people with a learning disability and those who support them.
  • Apply strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and practice across both adult and children’s cases.
  • Contribute to cross-organisational work, including producing the annual safeguarding analysis with accurate data and contextual understanding.
  • Support the organisation’s storytelling by gathering case studies, feedback and examples where appropriate.
  • Communicate to a high standard in written and spoken English; additional languages are beneficial but not essential.
  • Undertake non-priority casework during quieter periods.

What will you bring to the role?

  • Confidence in delivering impactful, asset-based advice within an agreed framework.
  • Experience of delivering multi-channel advice to people with a learning disability or other under‑represented groups.
  • Professional experience in advice-giving and decision-making.
  • Experience handling complex cases, including safeguarding concerns.
  • Strong understanding of data protection and confidentiality.
  • Competence in using CRM systems, Microsoft Teams, and maintaining accurate case records.

Are you skilled in delivering advice on SEND issues, Housing, Welfare Benefits, or Community Care in an accessible, clear and empathetic way? If so, please apply with an up‑to‑date application form and covering statement.

We operate on a blinded recruitment process and will be unable to see your CV until interview stage.
