Site Reliability Engineer; SRE

Job Overview

Design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

• Develop and deliver high‑quality software solutions using industry‑aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
• Ensure that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Participate in code reviews and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities.
• Adhere to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implement effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
• Lead strategic initiatives: set strategy, drive requirements, manage resources, budgets, and policies, and deliver continuous improvements.
• When applicable, manage a team: define jobs and responsibilities, counsel employees on performance, and influence department operations.
• Advise key stakeholders and senior management on functional and cross‑functional areas of impact and alignment.
• Collaborate with other areas to support business‑aligned support functions and keep abreast of business activity.

• Strong SRE experience implementing reliability practices, defining SLOs and error budgets, maintaining uptime, and supporting incident response for layered distributed systems.
• Proficiency in cross‑region cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), observability tools (Prometheus, Cloud Watch), and automation frameworks that reduce toil.
• Solid infrastructure‑as‑code skills (Terraform, Cloud Formation) with experience building self‑service platforms, tooling, and deployment pipelines for engineering teams.
• Demonstrated ability in capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimisation at significant scale.
• Experience with observability, monitoring, metrics collection, logging, distributed tracing, and dashboard creation.
• Security experience, including encryption, secrets management, authentication, authorisation standards (OAuth, SAML, API Key Management).
• Programming or scripting experience with Python for automation and monitoring.
• Experience with modern testing approaches, including chaos and performance testing.
• Understanding of Large Language Models and agentic frameworks (highly valued).
• Self‑starter with mentoring experience, running post‑mortems, and driving reliability improvements across engineering teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field with depth in systems engineering, networking, and distributed systems design.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, service mesh technologies, and microservices reliability patterns in production environments.
• Knowledge of compliance requirements and experience working with audit/regulatory frameworks.
