Position: Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

Glasgow/Knutsford.

Core Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver high‑quality software solutions; ensure code is scalable, maintainable and optimised for performance.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with product managers, designers and other engineers to define requirements, devise solution strategies and ensure seamless integration with business objectives.
  • Participate in code reviews and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and contribute to organisational technology communities.
  • Adhere to secure coding practices, implement effective unit testing and mitigate vulnerabilities.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Good SRE experience implementing reliability practices, defining SLOs/error budgets, uptime and incident response for multi‑layered distributed systems.
  • Proficiency with cross‑region cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), observability tools (Prometheus, Cloud Watch) and automation frameworks that reduce toil.
  • Solid infrastructure‑as‑code skills (Terraform, Cloud Formation) with experience building self‑service platforms, tooling and deployment pipelines for engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated ability in capacity planning, performance tuning and cost optimisation for large‑scale production systems.
  • Experience with observability and monitoring, metrics collection, logging, distributed tracing and dashboard creation.
  • Security experience – encryption, secrets management, authentication and authorisation standards (OAuth, SAML, API key management).
  • Programming/scripting experience with Python for automation and monitoring.
  • Experience with modern testing approaches, including chaos and performance testing.
  • Understanding of large‑language models and agentic frameworks.
  • Self‑starter with leadership experience mentoring SREs, running post‑mortems and driving reliability improvements across engineering teams.
Highly Valued Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field with depth in systems engineering, networking and distributed systems design.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, service‑mesh technologies and microservices reliability patterns in production environments.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements and experience working with audit/regulatory frameworks.
