Lead Platform Engineer

Overview

Leading talented teams, shaping platform strategy and driving hands‑on delivery in a global organisation. You will be part of a Platform Engineering Centre of Excellence, supporting the delivery and evolution of critical public sector services at national scale.

• Design, build and evolve secure, cloud‑native platforms across AWS using multi‑account landing zones, Kubernetes, and modernise legacy systems into micro‑service architectures.
• Shape platform strategy, set standards for security, reliability, CI/CD and observability, and work closely with stakeholders and engineering teams to bring it all together.
• Contribute to design, code, problem solving and provide technical leadership with real credibility.
• Build internal developer platforms, enable true self‑service for engineering teams, and drive improvements across observability and reliability tools such as Open Telemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana.

• Experience in cloud at scale – AWS (Azure or GCP exposure a bonus).
• Experience with Kubernetes and container platforms in production (EKS/AKS).
• Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code with Terraform.
• Experience with CI/CD and automation tools such as Git Hub Actions or Jenkins.
• Knowledge of observability and reliability tools – Prometheus, Grafana, Open Telemetry.
• Expertise in platform thinking – internal developer platforms, self‑service tooling.
• Leadership experience – mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction.
