Our Chemifarm facility in Glasgow operates a growing fleet of advanced robotic systems that automate synthesis, optimisation, and library generation. This gives our computational scientists something rare: a direct, high-throughput bridge from in silico design to physically synthesised molecules, closing the design–make–test loop at a pace conventional drug discovery organisations cannot match.

We are seeking a Mechatronics Engineer to work across the boundaries of our robotic synthesis platform — where mechanics, electronics, and firmware meet. You will design and integrate the motion and actuation systems that physically carry out chemistry, taking subsystems from concept through prototyping to reliable operation, and making sure the disciplines come together into hardware that just works.

• Design and integrate mechatronic subsystems — motion, actuation, sensing — across mechanical, electronic, and firmware domains.
• Select and integrate motors, drives, sensors, and actuators, and tune them for real-world performance.
• Prototype, bring up, and test electromechanical systems, debugging across discipline boundaries.
• Partner with mechanical, electronics, firmware, and controls engineers to deliver integrated modules.
• Support characterisation, calibration, and reliability of motion and actuation systems.
• Contribute to design reviews and cross-disciplinary standards.

  About You

  You are a systems-minded engineer who is happiest where disciplines overlap. You can reason about a mechanism, the electronics that drive it, and the firmware that controls it, and you enjoy making them work together reliably in the real world.

  We expect you to bring:

• Proven, significant experience in mechatronics, robotics, or electromechanical systems engineering.
• Working knowledge across at least two of: mechanical design, electronics, motion control, and embedded firmware.
• Hands‑on experience selecting and integrating motors, drives, sensors, and actuators.
• Practical bring‑up, testing, and debugging of electromechanical systems.
• Comfort collaborating across mechanical, electronics, and firmware teams.

  Beneficial Skills

  • Motion / closed‑loop control and controls tuning.
  • Some embedded/firmware experience ([C/C++], [Python] for test).
  • Exposure to lab automation, precision instrumentation, or fluidic systems.
