Scotland's Railway covers a large geographic area from the Borders to Thurso, accounting for almost 20 per cent of the UK rail network. We provide rapid access along busy commuter routes to seven cities, servicing varied needs for business and leisure travel, including cross-border and rural services. Brief

Description

As a Works Delivery Supervisor [Signalling], you will assist the Works Delivery Manager in the inspection, maintenance and renewal of assets to standards and within agreed resource levels, budget and unit cost measures. You will supervise the delivery of work and undertake specific inspections as required. You will also assist in the management of staff as directed.

There are 2 positions available. One post will focus on the annual renewals portfolio with emphasis on life extension works and Level Crossing upgrades, and will predominantly assist in the management of internal signalling staff. The second post will focus initially on an 18-month performance project of points improvement works (HPSS). This will include the management of a mix of internal and contract staff and aims to establish an in-house points specialist team for the long term.

Key Accountabilities
  • Supervise and check the quality of work delivered and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
  • Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements and other instructions.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Undertake specific inspections in accordance with standards as directed.
  • Prioritise work arising.
  • Prepare work and resource specifications and method statements including Safe System of Work Plans.
  • Assist in the development of work plans that enables work to be delivered safely, efficiently and compliant to standards.
  • Assist in the identification and proposal of asset renewals.
  • Assist in the allocation of resources.
  • Deliver work in accordance with the relevant maintenance plans.
  • Provide appropriate information to update systems, databases and records.
  • Undertake a programme of staff surveillance, work quality, compliance and asset condition checks as directed.
  • Assist in the management, control and discipline of staff as directed.
  • Assist in the monitoring and review of staff competence and welfare.
  • Contribute to your own development and that of others.
  • Experience, skills, knowledge and competencies
  • Experience of directing and supervising worksites and the safe and efficient delivery of work.
  • Knowledge of resource and work organisation/planning processes and systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of off track equipment inspection, maintenance, renewal and asset condition assessment techniques.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures and instructions.
  • Awareness of cost and waste control techniques.
  • Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Able to coach, influence and develop others.
  • Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post and required by business need.
  • Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained the appropriate level of knowledge gained through equivalent relevant experience.
