Due to continued expansion, we are looking for a proactive and organised Operations Controller to join our Glasgow depot team at Charles Street. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in a similar role, or for an experience PCV driver who is ready to take the next step into an operational support or supervisory position.
In this role, you will play an important part in the smooth day-to-day running of depot, helping to ensure our services operate safely, efficiently, and reliably for our passengers and colleagues.
About the roleReporting to the Duty Manager, the Operations Controller is responsible for supporting the daily allocation and dispatch of buses and drivers from the depot. The role is central to maintaining service delivery, responding to operational issues, supporting compliance standards and ensuring clear communication across the depot.
This is a varied and responsible role where no two days are the same. You will work closely with drivers, engineering colleagues and depot management to help keep services running smoothly and to a high standard.
Key responsibilities- Allocate buses and drivers to scheduled services and support the smooth daily operation of the depot.
- Monitor live services and respond quickly to disruptions, delays, incidents and driver absences.
- Ensure spare vehicles are available and operationally ready for service.
- Maintain accurate operational records, including vehicle movements, attendance, fuel usage, lost mileage, and daily diary updates.
- Support compliance by carrying out gate checks, monitoring standards and ensuring adherence to company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with the investigation of incidents and complaints, including downloading CCTV footage and submitting accident reports with supporting information.
- Liaise with drivers, engineering teams and depot colleagues to ensure communication clear, timely and effective.
- Update internal systems such as Green Road, Passenger App, Tachomaster, Blink, and other operational platforms.
- Help ensure depot equipment, ticket machines, and essential stock are ready for use.
- Carry out additional operational and administrative duties in support of the wider depot team.
- Previous experience in a similar role, or a strong interest in progressing into a operational or supervisory role.
- A valid PCV licence is essential.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy operationla environment.
- Confident communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of colleagues.
- A calm, proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
- Good attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
- A strong commitment to safety, compliance, and high operational standards.
