Scotland's Railway is part of this large family and it covers a large geographical area from the Borders to Thurso at the far tip of the North East of Scotland, accounting for almost 20 per cent of the UK rail network. the role

This is a Full-Time/ Permanent position.

The Section Supervisor assists the Section Manager in the inspection, maintenance and renewal of assets to standards and within agreed resource levels, budget and unit cost measures. They supervise the delivery of work and undertake specific inspections as required. They also assist in the management of staff as directed.

You will be responsible for supervising and assuring the quality of work delivered, ensuring all assets and activities comply with relevant standards, company policies, and safe systems of work. This includes carrying out inspections, prioritising work, preparing method statements and Safe System of Work Plans, and supporting the development of work plans that enable delivery to be safe, efficient, and compliant.

You will also contribute to asset management by assisting with asset condition assessments, identifying renewal requirements, and ensuring work is delivered in line with maintenance plans.

In addition, you will support effective team and resource management by assisting with resource allocation, staff supervision, and monitoring work quality, compliance, and asset condition. You will help maintain accurate systems, records, and databases, contribute to staff competence, welfare, and disciplinary processes where required, and carry out staff surveillance activities as directed. Ongoing personal development and supporting the development of others forms a key part of the role.

Key Accountabilities

  • Supervise and check the quality of work delivered and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
  • Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements and other instructions.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Undertake specific inspections in accordance with standards as directed.
  • Prioritise work arising.
  • Prepare work and resource specifications and method statements including Safe System of Work Plans.
  • Assist in the development of work plans that enables work to be delivered safely, efficiently and compliant to standards.
  • Assist in the identification and proposal of asset renewals.
  • Assist in the allocation of resources.
  • Deliver work in accordance with the relevant maintenance plans.
