Overview
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Geotechnical Engineer for our Geotechnical and Tunneling Team
!
This position can sit out of the following WSP offices:
- Boston, MA
- North Providence, RI
- Glastonbury, CT
- Worcester, MA
- Shelton, CT
- Merrimack, NH
- Other WSP offices throughout New England can be considered.
- Perform/coordinate field observation and special inspection of subsurface investigations in soils and rock
- Perform geotechnical engineering design and analyses for bridges, buildings, tunnels, underground structures, and retaining walls under minimal supervision of senior engineers
- Prepare/draft geotechnical memoranda, data reports and design reports
- Perform/coordinate field observation and special Inspection of geotechnical construction
- Assist task leaders in preparation of reports and Contract Documents
- Collaborate with other disciplines and project partners
- Assist to develop and coordinate geotechnical work in New England and other areas
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor's degree Civil Engineering with a concentration in Geotechnical or Tunneling Engineering, or a closely-related field
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
- Extensive knowledge of geotechnical engineering and working knowledge of related disciplines (Structures, Civil, and/or Environmental)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (e.g., Micro Station, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Geo Slope, Plaxis, Settle, LPILE, GROUP, GRLWEAP, SEEP/W, Rock Sciences Software, etc), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and other tools.
- Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in work environment
- Ability and willingness to travel and perform field work
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Master’s Degree in Geotechnical or Tunneling Engineering.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Prior design and/or construction experience of highway, bridge, building, and underground projects.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR ).
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
- A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
