Job OverviewApex is seeking a talented Project Manager with drinking water experience for a hybrid position. The selected employee will provide technical leadership for a variety of water system design‑related projects, including treatment plants, pump/booster stations, and water distribution systems throughout New England. While we prefer someone in the Greater Boston area, we will consider candidates located in other parts of New England who can travel to our client sites.
We are offering a sign‑on bonus for this role and will consider relocation.
- Manage project implementation with assigned project team and follow all company policies and operating procedures, keeping the client informed of project status and providing adequate management, advice, and support to team members.
- Initiate projects by developing proposals/scopes of work and project budgets for approval by the Principal; complete project initiation documents that include detailed scope/outline, budget, and schedule for completion.
- Supervise and direct individuals or teams of technical staff on projects and assist in the training and technical development of staff by holding training seminars, providing guidance during project execution, and bringing new technical developments in‑house.
- Consult with other technical staff and Project Managers on technical challenges in the drinking water discipline and provide independent technical reviews on projects for other water discipline leaders.
- Oversee the technical accuracy of projects through regular communication with staff, review of plans, specifications, reports, and calculations to ensure compliance with firm standards.
- Track all project costs, including labor and expenses, versus the project, and ensure timely invoices are issued to the client in accordance with company policy.
- Other tasks may include proposal preparation, participating in project interviews, attending public meetings, developing fee proposals, preparing contracts and presenting information to new and future potential clients.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 9+ years of related experience with increasing responsibility, or a master’s degree in a relevant field with 8+ years of related experience.
- Registered Professional Engineer or other Professional Registration as appropriate for primary field of expertise in state(s) where Apex does work, or ability to obtain same by reciprocity.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients, staff, subconsultants, and contractors through effective leadership, and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong understanding of state and federal regulatory framework and experience interacting with regulators in local and technical areas where Apex does work.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong desire to manage and mentor junior staff.
