NOTICE OF VACANCY

POSITION:

School Bus Mechanic (Union Position)

Glastonbury Public Schools Bus Yard

Full-Time, 12-Month position, Forty (40) hours per week

HOURLY WAGE:

$32.02 per hour (less $.40/hour for the first six months, increased to $.20/hour for completion of 6 months of continuous service). Full benefits as provided in Custodial/Maintenance and General Service Employees' Union Agreement.

DUTIES:

Responsible for repairs on all vehicles which includes coordination of bus and van services, ordering parts, keeping accurate inventory on all tools and parts, bus refueling, snow removal. Provides accurate reports on all vehicle repairs. Participates in Weekly Emergency On-Call Schedule. Other duties will be assigned as required in conjunction with operation of the School Bus Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 4 - 6 years of experience. Medium/Heavy truck/school bus fleet mechanic repair experience preferred. CDL Class B License with airbrake endorsement. Must have knowledge of DOT safety regulations. Diagnostic and electrical skills are required. Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems. Able to diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs including but not limited to electrical, cooling, lubrication, brake systems, suspensions, power steering and related assigned duties in accordance with all Federal, State and BOE guidelines and requirements.

Must have mechanical skill aptitude for vehicle maintenance. Ability to use an assortment of mechanical hand tools and equipment to remove, disassemble and repair all vehicles, and experience with maintenance software. Experience disassembling, repairing and assembling brakes on vans and buses; and performing brake adjustments. Ability to repair on-road vehicle failures. Must have experience with diagnostic software and equipment and computers.

ASE Certification Preferred.
