Primary Purpose

To provide fast, easy, flexible and friendly service to customers through the achievement of Food Lion customer service standards. To be friendly, courteous and cooperative with other store associates. Support the Customer Service Manager and the Assistant Customer Service Manager in maintaining standards according to Front End Standard Practice Manual, and maximize sales through excellent customer service.

Responsibilities
  • Smile and provide prompt, accurate and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience
  • Greet customers and use their name when possible
  • Unload customers’ groceries from cart to belt and group items for efficient bagging
  • Ensure carts are clean and free of items before completing an order
  • Follow correct bagging procedures and bag types
  • Scan orders and handle payment transactions per standard practice
  • Maintain professionalism and minimize personal conversations with coworkers when customers are present
  • Handle cash, checks, coupons, gift cards, partner cards, food stamps and WIC vouchers per procedures
  • Process refunds and correct errors as needed
  • Maintain accurate cash control
  • Follow procedures for overrides when applicable
  • Identify customers needing assistance and offer to take orders to their car when appropriate
  • Maintain alertness and call for assistance to service customers per service standards
  • Verify prices quickly and accurately
  • Be courteous and helpful to other associates
  • Wear the Food Lion uniform with name badge and maintain a neat appearance
  • Retrieve shopping carts and manage corrals per standard practice
  • Keep workstation and front end area neat and clean
  • Report any register malfunction to the Customer Service Manager or MOD
  • Ensure MVP savings center KIOSK is stocked and functioning
  • Adhere to company guidelines, policies and standard practices
  • Observe and correct any unsafe conditions
  • Notify QA of cleaning issues or maintenance needs on the front end
  • Complete computer-based training (CBT) and training aids
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Effective communication and customer service skills
  • Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job
  • Ability to perform the cashier and service center duties
  • Must meet minimum age requirements for specific job functions
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to use computers and other communication systems required to perform job functions
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm motions
  • Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. on occasion
  • Pull or push up to 75 lbs. on occasion
  • Stand for the majority of shift; walk distances as needed
  • Handle substances associated with cleaning, packaging, fresh produce, and household cleaners
  • Frequent handling of currency and use of cash registers and related equipment
  • Reach and grasp at various levels
  • Meet established activity standards for the position
  • Work in varying temperatures for short periods as needed
  • Ability to verify IDs, checks, and documents
