- Perform moderate‑difficulty landscape maintenance tasks including repair, demolition, construction, installation, and care of plants, trees, hardscapes, turf, and related equipment.
- Assist in organizing, assigning, inspecting work of grounds staff and provide in‑field direction on projects and tasks.
- Oversee in‑field day‑to‑day tasks delegated or assigned by the department supervisor or manager.
- Provide detailed reports to the supervisor as needed.
- Assist with researching products, providing price estimates, and obtaining supplies.
- Participate in tree, plant, and turf maintenance, installation and care.
- Install and maintain all types of pavers and hardscapes.
- Use landscaping industry standard equipment and tools to perform assigned duties.
- Mix and apply chemical herbicides and pesticides.
- Participate in snow removal operations.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on college‑owned equipment and tools.
- Coordinate daily work with end users, subcontractors, and other facilities staff.
- Occasionally perform minor cement or asphalt patching on sidewalks and parking lots.
- Erect regulatory and information signage.
- Occasionally support the work of the building maintenance staff.
- Assist in irrigation system programming, maintenance and repair.
- Assist in athletic field maintenance and field preparation for games.
- Occasionally maintain mowing and equipment maintenance records.
- Occasionally assist the Irrigation Technician with irrigation system programming, maintenance and repairs.
- Conduct daily outdoor trash pickup and removal.
- Create and complete work orders daily.
- Report to work during emergency conditions and may be assigned to report to college personnel at a different time and location and perform different duties as necessary.
- Annually responsible for 4 documented hours of continuous learning through seminars, classroom training, or conferences.
- Perform work safely in accordance with facilities department safety procedures, protocols, and the College of DuPage safety program.
- Complete college‑required training sessions.
- Operate equipment safely and report any unsafe work condition or practice to supervisor.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience: Two years of experience or a combination of equivalent education and related experience, in professional turf maintenance or landscaping, landscape maintenance and professional snow removal operations required.
- Proficiency: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in required duties.
- Licences: Illinois Pesticide Applicator's license with Turf and Right of Way endorsement required within 6 months of hire.
- Valid Illinois Driver's License required.
- Preferred:
Four years of professional turf maintenance or landscaping experience. - Preferred:
Two winter seasons in professional snow removal. - Preferred:
Experienced in grounds equipment repair. - Preferred:
Illinois Pesticide Applicator's License with Turf or Right of Way endorsement. - COD Training: Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Communications, Forklift / Scissor / Aerial Lift, Electrical Safety.
- Knowledge of grounds equipment including mowers, trimmers, and all types of vehicles, and the upkeep and repair of all equipment and tools.
- Required to participate in snow operations.
- Must be able to lift 50+ pounds, bend, reach, and work on hands and knees as necessary.
- Uniform appearance must be clean and in good wear.
- Must wear solid‑soled shoes.
- Usually good conditions, but could be exposed to harsh weather and long hours in emergency situations.
- Position requires extensive walking and ability to climb stairs.
