The College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago. It offers nine associate degrees and a wide variety of professional and technical certificates.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Operate, repair, and maintain motor vehicles, grounds equipment and related equipment.
- Diagnose problems on gas and diesel equipment; perform engine overhauls, drivetrain repairs, clutch repair, electrical repair, air conditioning repair, and minor body work on College-owned vehicles.
- Perform monthly preventive maintenance and daily maintenance on fleet vehicles.
- Perform welding on College-owned equipment as needed.
- Work with snow removal crews during winter months.
- Keep all tools, equipment and area clean and organized; wash, wax and vacuum vehicles; set up appointments for quotes and service for outside repairs.
- Use computer system to maintain maintenance history of all vehicles; provide quarterly updates on vehicle conditions.
- Train drivers for department vehicles; order supplies and parts; maintain inventory.
- Create and complete work orders and time reports daily.
- Report to work during emergency conditions or be assigned to different duties.
- Maintain continuous learning hours toward current ASE certification standards annually.
- Work safely in accordance with department safety procedures and the College of DuPage safety program; report unsafe conditions.
- Education
:
Completion of high school required; certified mechanic certificate required; two-year college education preferred. - Experience
:
Three to five years as an automotive mechanic, journeyman or graduate of an approved auto tech program; ASE certification required; minimally proficient in spoken English; five to seven years preferred. - COD Training
:
Hazardous Communications; forklift / scissor / aerial lift.
Knowledge and use of hand tools, ignition tune-up machines, welding machines, and all equipment relating to auto repair. Small ladders or step stools used regularly. Must be scheduled on call for snow emergencies. Must lift 50+ pounds and bend, reach, work on hands and knees as necessary. Uniform appearance must be clean and in good wear; solid-soled shoes required. Exposure to harsh weather and long hours in emergency situations possible.
Uniforms supplied by the college. Must pass physical exam, background check, physical and drug screen. Position requires extensive walking, climbing stairs and ladders.
7 hourly/Starting salary beginning at $21.97/hourly. Competitive starting pay is dependent on education and experience.
