Midwestern University invites applications for the Visiting Instructor – Pathology Resident position at its College of Veterinary Medicine.
State of the Art FacilityThe Anatomic Pathology Residency Program is housed in a purpose‑built, state‑of‑the‑art pathology facility on the Glendale, AZ campus. The Diagnostic Pathology Center (DPC) has a 5,300‑sq‑ft, full‑service necropsy floor, a gross pathology teaching theatre, a dedicated histopathology laboratory, downdraft and ventilated storage areas, an 800‑sq‑ft BSL‑3‑capable necropsy suite, and 1,200 sq ft of classroom/teaching space. The facility is adjacent to the Companion Animal Clinic, a 111,000‑sq‑ft small animal teaching hospital, and the Equine Bovine Center, a large animal teaching facility with indoor equine and bovine teaching areas and housing for university‑owned cattle and horses.
ExcellentTeaching Opportunities
The program offers a 2‑quarter, second‑year veterinary student pathology course, specialized third‑year electives, and a continuous 4‑week, fourth‑year veterinary student clinical rotation. Residents conduct weekly histopathology and gross pathology rounds open to the entire campus and collaborate with community projects.
Residents work directly with board‑certified anatomic pathologists and have access to the department’s clinical pathology service, which includes three board‑certified clinical pathologists available for additional training.
Innovative Case LoadThe DPC operates as an academic/diagnostic hybrid, receiving roughly equivalent caseload from external submissions and Midwestern clinics. Strong relationships with local law enforcement, shelter medicine, and dedicated faculty create opportunities for developing new forensic approaches. Collaborative research with zoo and wildlife organizations throughout the Phoenix Valley is ongoing.
Qualifications- DVM from an AVMA accredited veterinary school.
- One year of clinical practice or internship experience desired.
- Commitment to teaching and research in veterinary pathology.
